Open Day Speech - Geily Luna
Currently, society ignores the risk alerts that pollution could bring to future generations. Pollution has an extensive history among us. The production of wastes has been a distinctive feature of humanity. The number of inhabitants was the main cause of the problem to increase. Water is fundamental in the production of food, in the growth and life of plants, in the good living of man, in animal husbandry, in industry, in construction, in the movement and maintenance of machines, in the fire fighting, frost control and general cleaning. But, as we already know water has been contaminated through all these years, causing countries like Libya, Western Sahara, Djibouti, among others, to be threatened by severe water shortages. It is estimated that 6.4 million tons of waste end up in the sea each year.
Once water is contaminated, it is difficult, costly, and often impossible to remove the pollutants. But even so it can be prevented. I have listed water pollution solutions that individuals, companies, and communities can take to have a significant and responsible impact on the water quality around them. First solution, green agriculture, globally, agriculture accounts for 70% of water resources, so it is essential to have climate-friendly crops, efficient irrigation that reduces the need for water and energy-efficient food production. Green agriculture also helps to limit the chemicals that enter the water. Second solutions, plant trees near bodies of water, be responsible for the amount of wateryou use, do not make your toilet your water basket, avoid using plastics, the ones mentioned and many more will help to reduce water pollution, since each individual makes an impact. And last but not least, we can reduce our garbage production by recycle or consume less inorganic products, for not to contribute to the garbage that unfortunately is already in the oceans.
